Policies
I am happy to share my views and position on some of the challenges that we are facing in Wellington, informed by my own experience and by listening to the opinions of other residents.
1
Infrastructure
Upgrading the city’s ageing infrastructure and public facilities must be the No. 1 priority both above ground (roads without potholes, clear street lighting, playgrounds, parks), and below ground (fix the pipes). That’s why people pay their rates.
2
Value for Money
Quality spending of the rates and prioritising expenditure.
I am in support of a review of Council spending to make sure the Council is delivering what Wellingtonians want and need.
3
Public Transport
We need better public transport services. Public transport must be readily available, reliable and affordable. We need to also accept that there are times when private vehicles are both useful and
necessary. I'm passionate about sustainable alternatives like affordable EVs and more charging stations.
4
Backing the Economy
Increased engagement and support for business. The city needs to have a cohesive plan for supporting its businesses and building a vibrant city. We need to support our small local businesses and see them succeed.
5
Home and Neighbourhood Safety
Councils need to work with NZ Police, social agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that together we build a safe and caring community. In Takapu/Northern Ward, I will support our community patrol groups, assisting them in their work to achieve safer and more connected communities.
6
Housing
We need to work with the central government to resolve the housing issue - rates can't cover all housing needs, and we must have affordable housing alongside a council that can ensure they are effective and reasonable in their consent processes. Without a balanced and effective approach, we risk unemployment and a further rise in the cost of living.
7
Climate Action
Resilience and adapting to climate change must be considered, but there must be balance in any approach. Investment in climate change mitigation and adaptation, done right, will support the economy and employment, and provide long-term economic opportunities.
